报告摘要:
The deep-ocean is the largest continuous habitat for life on Earth and harbors unique ecosystems, such as hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. Yet, the deep sea is also the least explored and understood environment within the ocean system, largely due to the fact that the remoteness and inhospitable conditions still pose technological challenges for ocean exploration. Technologies range from instruments for sampling and in situ measurements of biological and chemical parameters to advanced robotic systems that facilitate the exploration and mapping of deep-ocean environments. Here, I will provide examples of how a tight integration between science and technology can lead to advances in our understanding of deep ocean ecosystems, with an emphasis on chemosynthetic habitats.
