The University of Nottingham (www.nottingham.ac.uk) , founded in 1881, is a pioneering university in Britain. In 2000, it was selected as one of the five most popular universities by the Financial Times and The Times. In 2002, it ranked the first in the list of the most popular universities by Times. Owing the European Arabidopsis Mutant Bank Center, it has prominent advantage in systematic biology.
With world-class research facilities and research teams, School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology (SLSB), SJTU, has got a lot of pioneering, distinctive and internationally influential achievement in recent years. Disciplines like molecular biology and genetics, microbiology, zoology and botany, biology and biochemistry are among the top 1% of ESI in the world. In 2012, biology, as the First-Level Discipline, ranked the third in the subject evaluation of the Ministry of Education and was added to the list of first-class discipline (Type A) construction plan of Shanghai universities. Multi-channel international talent cultivation system was developed.
In 2012, SJTU and Nottingham University signed an agreement to jointly cultivate undergraduate and doctoral students, attaching great importance to cultivate first-class talents with international perspective and to enhance the internationalization level of SJTU.

2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project |
After enrollment, students study at Nottingham University in the first two years and at SJTU in the last two years. They will be conferred doctoral degree certificates of science both from SJTU and Nottingham University. Currently two doctoral students are trained. |
2+2Postgraduate Joint cultivate Project |
Students spend their first two years at SJTU and last two years at Nottingham University. They will be conferred bachelor’s degree in science or engineering both from SJTU and Nottingham University were awarded respectively. Currently two doctoral students are trained. |

Eligibility
2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project:
Bachelor's degree receiver; Ph.D. or master’s degree or direct Ph.D. candidate in biology, agriculture, pharmacy, medicine and other related fields registered at SJTU
2+2Postgraduate Joint cultivate Project
Grade 1-2 undergraduates enrolled in biology, agriculture, pharmacy, medicine and other related fields at SJTU
English Level
2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project:
IELTS ≥6.5 points L/S/R/W ≥6.0; TOEFL ≥90 points, L/S/R/W ≥20 points.
2+2Postgraduate Joint cultivate Project
IELTS ≥6.0 points L/S/R/W ≥5.5; TOEFL ≥79 points, L/S/R/W ≥18points.
FEES
2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project:
Applicants can apply for scholarships from the other school. Supervisors from both sides have the opportunity to help cover relevant expenses.
2+2Postgraduate Joint cultivate Project:
Tuition and living expenses are at students’ expense. Supervisors on both sides have the opportunity to help cover relevant fees.
When SLSB publishes the recruitment for the project applicants submit application materials according to the recruitment requirements after obtaining the approval of their supervisors. The application form can be downloaded from the home page of SLSB and should be sent to the designated mailbox. |
SLSB will preview the application materials and interview the applicants. SLSB will organize another round of review and interview to ultimately determine the list of candidates. |
2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project: During their first two years in SJTU, students begin to apply online. |
The University of Nottingham will issue admission letter after reviewing and accepting the application. Students shall prepare the formalities for going abroad using the formal admission letter. |
